Track: Hard Work and Determination

I have always enjoyed running. It was not until the sixth grade that I got to compete and use my abilities to help my team win. In the sixth grade, I was able to participate in junior varsity track and field at Westwood Schools. I ran the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, the 4x100 meter relay, the 4x400 meter relay, and I threw the discus. Track is a great way to display a person's athletic ability. The events  in track consist of running, jumping, and throwing. It is through practice, hard work, and determination that a person sharpens their athletic ability into precision track participants. I participated in junior varsity track grades sixth-eighth. All three years that I ran, our team placed first place at the region competition. All of the races that I ran at region, as well as the times that I threw the discuss, I placed first.
My eighth grade year, I had the privilege of running varsity track. Varsity track was very different from junior varsity track. Everyone that runs in a varsity meet is faster and stronger. Being an eighth grader, I was very excited and at the same time nervous about running in varsity meets. I was also very privileged to be able to take up pole-vaulting at Westwood. I pole-vaulted under the leadership of one of the best pole-vaulters in the state of Georgia. My eighth grade year, I finished second place in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. I also finished second place in pole-vault. Our team won the region championship. At the state meet, I placed sixth place in the 100 meter dash and eigth place in the 200 meter dash. I also placed third place in the pole-vault competition. Our team won its second consecutive state championship.
My ninth grade year, I had one year of varsity track experience under my  belt, and I was ready to run. All of my times improved in my races. I placed second place in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes at region. I also hold the title as co-region pole-vault champion. At the state competition, I placed second in the 100 meter dashes and sixth place in the 200 meter dashes. I was ecstatic when I became the state pole-vault champion for state. Our team also won its third consecutive state championship.
