Serving the School, Serving Others

I am a person that loves to be involved in different extra-curricular activities. Besides sports, I participate in many different clubs and activities both in and outside of Westwood. One of the clubs that I participate in is Y-Club. Y-Club is a service-oriented club determined to make a difference in the community. I serve as secretary for Y-Club. One of our most popular projects is Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is an organization that sends care packages to under privileged children around the world. These care packages contain things like soap, wash cloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste, coloring books, coloring crayons, and toys. For the Christmas of 2009, Y-Club sent out over 70 care packages to children around the world. It is our hope that these children will have a present to open for Christmas that will bring a smile on their faces. Another club that I participate inside of Westwood is Student Government. I serve as co-treasurer for this club. Student Government is involved with many activities around our school. We help choose the theme for Homecoming as well as create the t-shirts and decorate for the dance. We also help provide the cupcakes that are given to as a gift to the students whose birthdays are recognized at that time. Another community service that Student Government sponsers is the White Christmas Food Drive. The food drive begins in November and lasts until December. For the 2009 Christmas, Student Government raised enough food to feed many families. Out of Westwood, I participate in the Mitchell County Youth Advisory Council(MCYAC). This council organizes projects and services that helps the community raise awarness about abstinence, healthy lifestyles, and drug-free living. We strive hard to promote good character among the teenagers in Mitchell County. It is quite an honor to be able to represent my peers and serve on this council. I am very privileged to be able to particpate in many clubs and activities. I enjoy serving my school as well as the community.
