Basketball: A Sport of Passion

Basketball is a sport that I have been playing since I was little. Both of my parents played basketball, and they introduced me to the sport. I began basketball by playing in a junior pro basketball league at Westwood Schools. At an early age, I developed a strong attraction for the game. I played on the junior pro league at Westwood grades third-fifth. In the summer between my fifth and sixth grades, I attended the Don Eddy basketball camp in Statesboro, Georgia. I enjoyed playing and learning about the game of basketball at that camp. When I was in the sixth grade, I played on the traveling basketball team for Westwood. The traveling basketball team was made of sixth graders who played every Saturday. At the end of our season, we won the tournament and were named sixth grade traveling team champions. I also won the free-throw contest. The next summer, I also attended the Don Eddy basketball camp. My seventh grade year, I started as a shooting guard on the junior varsity team at Westwood Schools. Our team only lost twice that year and made it to the semi-finals in the region tournament. During the summer between my seventh and eighth years, I decided to take my game to a new level. I participated on an AAU(Amateur Athletic Union) basketball team under the instruction of Derek Harris. I started as a shooting guard. We participated in many tournaments. I learned many useful skills that helped me during my eighth grade year of basketball. I also attended the University of Georgia Lady Bulldogs basketball camp.  During my eighth grade year, I started as point guard. Our team lost once and made it to the semi-finals. When I stepped into the world of varsity basketball, it was a big change for me.

Varsity Basketball

The pace of the varsity games were much faster, and the competition was much tougher. As a ninth grader, our team was young; our team also had a new coach. After the fourth game, I began to start on the team as a point guard. We had a losing season that year, but we learned many things that are helping us this year. My tenth grade year, I start on the varsity team as a point guard. We are working hard towards a region and state championship. We listen to our coaches, Mrs. Jenni and Mr. Tim Smith, and we work hard every day at practice. We keep working hard with dreams in our eyes.
