On December 10, 2009, a film was released that revolutionized the movie-making industry. That film was Avatar. Avatar is a science fiction epic film written and directed by James Cameron. The story of Avatar sets in as genetically altered humans mine a precious mineral on the planet of Pandora. When the mining threatens the existence of the Na 'vi, the indigenous species of Pandora, the climatic plot begins. Not only is the story line of Avatar brilliant, but also the technology used to make the movie. Avatar was planned to release in 1999, but the technology was not available to produce the movie. Many extraordinary visual effects were used in the making of Avatar. Cameron wanted to use photo-realistic computer-generated characters, which had been developing for quite some time. Cameron also created a special camera to be integrated into a six inch boom captured the actors faces, so their expressions could be used in the animations of the characters. Another revolutionary piece of technology that was used in the movie were special suits that were created to capture the movements of the actors so that they could be incorporated into the films animation. The movie, Avatar, changed the film-making industry forever. I am confident that the same technology used to make Avatar, will be incorporated into movies to come.
