Miller's Efolio

From the time that I was in the eighth grade, I have been very busy working on many different computer projects. My ninth grade year, I combined all of the things that I have done into my efolio on the Westwood wiki. This efolio contains all of the work that I have completed. I am very glad that all of my  hard work is stored in a convenient place on the Internet.

The Green Machine

My tenth grade year, I have also partaken in a lot of different projects. One of the most known projects is the Flat Classroom Project. I blogged and collaborated on a wiki with other teenagers around the world. I also had the chance to participate in a video competition. My video was about developing a concept that would help stop littering. Entitled, the Green Machine, my video focused on using the cell phone to send pictures of the litter along with the GPS coordinates of the litter sites to law enforcement agencies. In using the Green Machine, I hope that people will stop littering and "click it before you pick it."

Wide Open Learning

For the spring of 2010, our computer class participated in the NetGenEd project. NetGenEd stands for Net Generation Education. Based on the novels by renowned author Don Tapscott, the NetGenEd project focuses on helping students transform into a digital generation. For the NetGenEd projects, students were required to create a video explaining how their assigned topic could help either education, or the world. I chose to create a video about how open content technology, which is free materials that are offered online and are "open" to anyone. My video tells the story of a girl who graduated high school with hopes of going to college and getting a degree. However, her hopes are shattered when her father loses his job and her scholarship is denied. Luckily, the girl stumbles across free online course materials offered by MIT and is able to obtain a degree and become a world-renown speaker and activist for open content technology programs. Wide Open Learning offers a new method of education: education through technology.
